upgrading my Oscars ballot spreadsheet
Today I spent entirely too much time working on the spreadsheet I use to generate my Oscars ballots. In addition to the versions I posted on Friday, and the broadcast results I posted yesterday after the show, I created three new versions. Instead of having the award categories sorted in the order that they're listed on the nomination list, the new versions have them sorted according to the way they were announced on this year's show. Of course, they may change the announcement order next time, but I don't expect that they'll change it a lot.

Here are links to all of the versions:

There are two things I haven't figured out how to automate. One is the data entry; it would be nice if I could find a way to extract all the nominees from somewhere, but I don't think there's any list that's formatted consistently enough that I can save time that way. (IMDB may work; that might be something to check out.) The other is formatting the blank ballot so that it prints nicely on a single double-sided sheet of tabloid paper; I've ended up importing the HTML version into Word, and beating on it in there until the layout looks good.
